Mr. Sang Joon Ly, Chairman of Golden Bridge Finance Group, who concluded an investment and management agreement as largest shareholder of Hai Phong Securities Joint Stock Company of Vietnam at the end of June, founded the Hanviet Foundation with private funds of 250 million Korean Won and a contribution of 300 million Korean Won from its affiliates to contribute to the exchange and cooperation between Korea and Vietnam in economy, social matters, education and culture. On July 12, 2007, the launching ceremony was held at the Seoul Press Center, attended by some 100 government officials of both countries, including the Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea, Pham Tien Van.

The Hanviet Foundation supports the education, social development and humanitarian fields in Vietnam, assists Vietnamese people settling in Korea, and contributes, on a private level, to the establishment of a foundation upon which Korea and Vietnam can become future partners. The Hanviet Foundation has also acquired a permit from the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Nak-Whan Paik, Visiting Professor of Hanoi University and former Korean Ambassador to Vietnam, has assumed the position of the Chairman of the Board.

Founder and Chairman Sang-Jun Ly said that he intended to expand his continuous social contribution activities that had accompanied his investments to Vietnam during past three years through the Hanviet Foundation and that as a member of the Korean Hwasan Lee family, the descendents of the Vietnamese Ly Dynasty, he hoped the Foundation would promote the comprehensive partnership and be the bridge that connects the people of the two countries. In his congratulatory address, Chairman of the Board Nak-Whan Paik said, “The two countries have so many similarities in terms of ethnicity, history, culture and politics that they are like long-lost twins meeting again after going through the vicissitudes of history.”

The Hanviet Foundation appointed Mr. Insun Yu, former professor of East Asia History Studies at Seoul National University, Mr. Hee Yun Ly, President of the Family Meeting, Ms. Sun-Hyun Kim, CEO of Jase, as Directors, and Mr. Moon Sik Park, CEO of Jewon Accounting Corp. and Mr. Chan Yu, CEO of GB AMC, as Comptrollers.
